In an ongoing effort to become more involved in our community, Risetime held our first annual employee toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots this past holiday season. In total, we donated just over sixty toys that were given to a wide range of children from infants to teens, and a variety of interests from books and games to sports, musical instruments, and dolls. In addition to giving toys, a small group of Risetime employees volunteered at the Chicagoland Toys for Tots sorting and packing facility.
As we are all aware, the current state of the economy has affected everyone in some way, and the Chicagoland Toys for Tots was no exception. They received less than half of the toy donations they have come to expect in past years with 220,000 toys in 2008, compared with more than 486,000 toys in 2007. It’s unfortunate that the donations were so low, but has made Risetime and our employees that much more proud of our efforts and contributions to this important charity.
About Toys for Tots:
Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 and is run by the United States Marines Corps Reserve. Only certified non-profit organizations can request toys from Toys for Tots, who then distributes toys and financial donations to the requesting organizations. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
