Risetime presented and exhibited at the recent AIIM ECM (Enterprise Content Management) Seminar in Chicago, where Content Management, SharePoint, and Social Media were much buzzed about topics. AIIM Vice President Peggy Winton gave a thorough presentation illuminating the value that a clear ECM strategy can have in addressing the changing challenges businesses face in today’s market.
Among the trends enumerated by Ms. Winston are:
1. Businesses are deploying SharePoint for a variety of uses including internet sites, intranets, portals, collaboration applications and document management.
2. It’s not if, but when to implement Enterprise 2.0 technologies.
3. Drivers affecting project selection has changed with the economy.
4. The single ECM system concept is still alive.
5. Email is still a top vulnerability, in terms of archiving and efficiently retrieving information.
6. Legal discovery preparation is mostly ad hoc.
7. While many organizations recognize the importance of ECM, they have yet to implement a strategy.
AIIM’s survey of companies with an average of 800 users indicated that 54% of those organizations consider Enterprise 2.0 to be important to achieving overall business goals and success. This demonstrates that while momentum is growing, many organizations are still hesitant to embrace this concept and related technologies. Many are concerned about security and employee productivity as constraints to embracing an Enterprise 2.0 strategy. But increased collaboration, ease of communication, information accessibility, knowledge sharing, and greater efficiency are some of the standout benefits of an Enterprise 2.0 strategy.
It’s clear that Enterprise 2.0 discussions will continue well into 2010. The Risetime presentation at the AIIM seminar introduced a new product we have been exploring: nGage by OI Software. nGage integrates with SharePoint to take it to the next level in enterprise social computing while keeping valuable ideas and information inside the corporate firewall. If your organization is already using a SharePoint portal, you have an excellent tool in place to begin encouraging social networking behaviors within your company. And, with SharePoint 2010 and the promise of improved features and mobility, many more businesses are expected to consider SharePoint to drive their Enterprise 2.0 strategy. Stay tuned next year for more information regarding SharePoint 2010 from Risetime in future newsletters and blogs.
