The County’s existing public facing website was difficult for users to navigate and a visually inconsistent throughout. Intended to serve more than 315,000 residents and businesses, visitors often could not find the appropriate pages for the county’s departments and services, current events and calendars, and other vital information such as job postings. In addition, the existing web platform and content management tool was unmanageable which made making changes to the site difficult.
 

Goal >

McHenry County was seeking to achieve the following goals:

  • Improve look and feel, navigation and usability, including simpler access to content and department contact information.

  • Develop a self-service approval workflow to facilitate the content creation, approval and publishing activities of over 25 departments.

  • Add Flash and other multimedia content to the site easily.
•
  • Implement easy-to-use, site-wide search functionality.
•
  • Enhance and simplify analytics to leverage Google-based tools.
